Any wild camping that I have done has been 'way off track', and not near any human habitations.
The other aspect to your wild camping is that you will have to carry a lot of gear with you, and you may not be able to use it for all of your nights in any case. One other aspect of camping here that you may not have considered is weather.

Our summers can be very wet. It is not unusual to have a week of rain at a time. A very dry summer here is rare!!!! If you are on a budget, and do not have access to a car then the cheapest way to go is with hostelling. Any age group can use their hostels. If you join the association before you travel to Ireland you will get discounted rates at their hostel. There is an An Oige hostel in Glendalough, Wicklow , as well as other parts of the county. You could go wild camping here, but to be honest, I don't think it would be a great idea for 2.

There are three Adirondack-type shelters same type as you might see in the US, especially on the Appalachian Trail along the Wicklow Way, one at Brusher Gap between Oldbridge and Glendalough; one at Mullacor, between Glendalough and Glenmalure; and one at Mucklagh, near Aughanvannagh. You have no guarantee, of course, that other walkers won't bag a space before you. This is what it looks like: …wikimedia. Wild camping in the Glendalough Valley is forbidden and this is strictly enforced by the National Park rangers.
Finding a place to camp at the end of stage one is going to be the most difficult - a lot of people used to camp along the river near the Knockree Youth Hostel but the landowner, fed up with some people leaving their rubbish behind, has now banned camping. Your best bet for the first night is the youth hostel at Knockree. It amazes me how people who alledgedly "love the outdoors" would leave rubbish anywhere. I don't blame that landowner, but unfortunately those of us with a mature attitude towards nature must suffer because of the few ignorants.
I was being as diplomatic as I could about the situation at Knockree: in fact, what was happening was that at every weekend in the summer the area was being inundated with "local colour" showing up armed with their tent, their mot, their ghetto blaster, their bag of cans and their bag of weed and raising merry hell as well as wrecking the area with litter and damaging huge areas of ground with improperly built campfires.
None of these people would in anyway be described as the sort that "love the outdoors" nor indeed see any value in showing any respect for the rest of society even though society pays for their "lifestyle" from their hard-earned wages. About a year or two ago the landowner took decisive action, which means that all camping is now banned there. Frankly it's a miracle that he was still willing to allow the Wicklow Way to pass through his land - if he had removed permission a re-route would likely have meant adding about km of road walking to get from Knockree to Crone Wood.
On the more positive side, I should have mentioned that the three Adirondack shelters were each constructed, with the permission of Coillte, by Mountain Meitheal, an excellent voluntary group whose members, who do love the outdoors and understand the value of giving something back to society, give up their time and the odd lumbar vertebra or two to maintain and restore many of the paths and trails on our mountains.

Looking to do a couple nights myself this weekend but all campsites are fully booked out. A small group, we want to experience the outdoors without interrupting anyone or being asked to pack up and leave.

The Blessington Greenway is a walk that isn't know that much and it should be. It starts in surprisingly Blessington and goes to Russborough House. My family and I walked this in mid-July in glorious sunshine. The start of the walk in Blessington isn't that well marked and if you head for the Avon Ri hotel you should be able to go join the path.
The walk goes by the Pollaphuca Reservoir and even some small beaches , through some lovely woodland and ends in at Russborough House. About six kilometres each way and it is totally flat so very doable if you one is any way fit. It can also be cycled but you won't be going too fast. It passes through forest and alongside the lakeshore with Castle ruins along the way. Kids love it as its off-road and can be walked, cycled or scooted easily. You can eat at the hotel or at the cafe in Russborough House, both of which have good restaurants. We like to get the ice-cream at Russborough and picnic on the walk. They film some scenes of the TV series 'Vikings' on the lake and we have even come across the replica ships moored, which the kids and adults loved!
