Full hook up campsites in Malahide Ireland

Both lovely places,it's about 30 minutes on the DART from Dublin to both of these,if you are doing the both in the same day change trains at Howth Junction. The castle at Malahide is set in a beautiful park, there is also a model railway in the grounds also,a walk by the water at the marina is really nice. As for Howth, this is one of our favourites,we can spend a whole day just relaxing here,a trip to the summit will give you beautiful views, many people walk up there or you could take the bus, gets very busy at weekends.

Howth and Malahide and not cities - they were both smaller coastal villages just north of Dublin which have now, to a greater or lesser extent, become part of the city. By DART, both are about 30 minutes. Howth is a fishing village and is on a peninsula with good walks. The DART station is beside the harbour but the lighthouse is about 3 miles away, walking by the cliffs -a pleasant walk on a sunny day. If you don't want to walk that far, the village and harbour are pleasant places to wander around.

Malahide also has a marina and is a pleasant village with nice seafront walks in addition to the castle which is in a park a little to the west of the village but within easy walking distance of the DART Station.

You could visit both in a day, though if you walk to and from the lighthouse in Howth, you need to allow about 2 - 3 hours for that walk alone. Also just noticed the typo in my reply.. Howth and Malahide ARE not cities! It's a beautiful sunny spring morning here in Dublin and yesterday was also sunnny which seemed to bring lots of people outdoors.

In fact, it struck me as I walked around the city centre yesterday afternoon how busy and buzzing the place was - lots of tourists you can tell by the slow walk, small backpacks and the reluctant teenager offspring in tow! Glad to here it,hoping for similar weather when we are next over next month, thinking of Howth already!

About Howth, is it possible to rent a bike there and ride the 3 miles to the lighthouse and back? Just curious Much of Howth is very steep and not really suited to leisurely cycling. There is a lighthouse at the entrance to the harbour which can easily be reached by walking along either of the two levels of the harbour wall a favourite pastime of Dubliners.

Useful info

The upper level is narrow and uneven, so not suitable for cycling. You could cycle the lower level but to be honest, it's a pleasant, relatively short stroll. But I think you are referring to the Bailey Lighthouse which as far as I know can only be reached on foot via a cliff path from the harbour a really lovely walk or via a path which runs from the car park at the Summit you can catch a bus from the harbour to the Summit. Neither of these paths is suitable for cycling.

Make your great escape

We just got back from Ireland where we visited both Malahide and Howth. We actually stayed 4 nights in Malahide because we were planning to do several day trips by car around Dublin and did not want to drive in Dublin itself.

We took the train from Malahide to Dublin on the day we spent in the city. The walk around the park at Malahide Castle is very nice. We had great weather while we were in Malahide and all the locals were out in the park until at least 7pm. We did not visit the castle as we had already visited the Kilkenny Castle which is similar. However, they apparently have a dollhouse and a model train exhibit which you might enjoy too.

We went to Howth yesterday and did the cliff walk from the car park at the Summit toward the lighthouse. We didn't go quite all the way to the lighthouse, but got very close. The views were amazing and we enjoyed the hike very much. Afterwards we went into town for dinner, but all of the seafood restaurants were beyond our budget. We ended up at the Waterside Pub and the food was both reasonably priced and very good. DH and I had the fish and chips and they give you a ton of chips ; DD had the BBQ ribs and said they were delicious and DS had the chicken burger and he said it was quite tasty.

The train from Dublin to Malahide takes 30 minutes and the RT fare was just over 4 euros. I believe the trip from Dublin to Howth is similiar.

See all. Marvel at the many species of plants he collected in Australasia flourishing here for you to enjoy. This attraction really does come as a surprise. This castle is a truly great example of historic architecture and it's gardens and parkland span a vast acres. There is so much to do and see here that I would certainly advise a half day should be reserved for your visit if not a full day if your also planning on having lunch here. Having visited a number of castles in and around Ireland I would have too say that Malahide Castle is right up there as one of its best.
